“We are an International Association of steelhead anglers dedicated to the continued improvement of steelhead fisheries throughout the Lake Ontario basin tributaries in the US and Canada.”

Our mission.  This is who we are.  And this is the reason for establishing ourselves as a organization.  In January of 2001, the Lake Ontario Steelhead Association was founded by a small group of dedicated anglers.  Anglers from both US and Canada, guides, and shop owners have all joined since then making us a small but sound organization.  Since that beginning, 2 years have passed and already we have shown a great impact.  We have given demonstrations and seminars at the National Hunting and Fishing Day at the Altmar Fish Hatchery, done several necessary stream cleanups, partook in several important fishery meetings, and are truly gaining respect and admiration from the DEC, MNR, and other important decision making bodies across our fishery.  My fellow anglers, we will continue to grow, and we will continue to succeed, and we have and will continue to make a difference.  Year 2004 will be a great year for LOSA.

For those who do not know about the Lake Ontario Steelhead Association, notice our mission statement reflects no specific fishing type, no one stream focus, and in fact, no even just one nation, but the entire Lake Ontario tributary fishery.  Every year thousands and thousands of anglers from across the US, Canada, and across the World visit the Lake Ontario Tributaries for a fishery unlike any other.  A world class fishery, with world class water, and world class fish, but unfortunately many of our streams are polluted with anglers who do not respect it as such.  Our organization was founded one on primary goal.  To improve OUR fishery.  Now by OUR, we mean anyone who chooses to fish the Lake Ontario fishery.  The majority of our members are anglers who indulge themselves each weekend, but we do have some who visit once a month, or just once a year.   Whether its once a year, or once a day, everyone who fishes the Lake Ontario Tributaries has had an experience unlike any other and most realize it is truly a treasure that that needs to be helped in numerous ways.  That's why we're here.  To help.  Also notice, nowhere in our mission does it describe a particular fishing method.  Important key to our organization.  We are made up of float fisherman, bottom bouncers, plug throwers, spoon chuckers, and of course a few fly fisherman mixed in.  Share and share alike.  No matter what your target, and no matter what your method, if you care about this fishery as much as we do, all angling types can appreciate this fishery and are welcome to help join our cause.  The main concern we have of our fellow anglers is that you show legal and ethical fishing practices.  The following represents the behavior and attitude expected of each member of the Lake Ontario Steelhead Association.

Approved members agree, by issuance of a membership application and payment of dues, to abide by these Codes or forfeit their membership, dues, and benefits.  The honor system will be in place as members agree to these terms, but should any member witness another member violating any code, they have the right to bring forth the action to the governing board.  If the board finds credibility to the accusation(s), then action may be taken against the accused--up to and including termination of membership, and benefits.  A termination of membership will include forfeiture of dues.  A ticketed violation of any NYS DEC or Ontario MNR regulation will automatically result in the immediate revocation of the violator’s membership and benefits.

Any individual who has had their membership revoked for violation the Association’s Code of Ethics will be prohibited form re-joining the Association for a period of five (5) years.
